Motivational Mentors (MM) routinely seek out and connect with current and potential Fellows. MM’s are from the neighborhoods they serve, and their reputations provide a unique level of credibility within the community, affording them access to persons and places otherwise out of reach.

Movement4Life recruits participants in the communities most heavily impacted by gun violence, “Hot Spots”. Currently, Motivational Mentors operate in South Sacramento, Oak Park, and Del Paso neighborhoods of Sacramento.
Outreach is just the first step in developing transformational relationships with our targeted youth. Over time, connections are strengthened, bonds are formed and the positive transformations can begin.
With Movement4Life, street outreach goes beyond recruitment and maintaining contact with the fellows. Motivational Mentors work with our partners to help fill critical needs and service gaps precipitated by poverty and systemic oppression.
In Sacramento, “Hot Spots” are not only found in specific neighborhoods. There are also popular hangouts ,like the Arden mall, where youth from all over the city convene. During heightened, potentially volatile periods, Motivational Mentors maintain an onsite presence to help resolve and preempt potentially violent conflict.
Movement4Life organizes neighborhood popup events during the summer months. Popups are free, family friendly, youth focused recreational activities designed to engage the youth during a time of year that they are most vulnerable. Motivational Mentors help to help peacefully resolve any conflicts that may arise.
During the height of the pandemic, Motivational Mentors hit the streets to deliver PPE, groceries, and other supplies that families in the targeted areas struggled to secure. The pandemic exacerbated existing stressors for these communities, and Movement4Llife responded with support.
